A timeline of the Nerazzurri
Foundation in central Milan
On 9 March, the new Foot-Ball Club Internazionale Milano was founded at the Orologio restaurant. Giorgio Muggiani designed the first crest and the black-and-blue identity was established.
The first national title
Only two years after the club was founded, Inter won the first championship in its history.
The Ambrosiana years
Under the Fascist regime the club was forced to change its name, eventually becoming Ambrosiana-Inter. The Internazionale name returned after the war.
San Siro becomes home
Inter began playing home matches at the stadium now formally named after Giuseppe Meazza, tying the club's modern history to the San Siro district.
Grande Inter
Under Helenio Herrera, Inter became one of world football's defining teams. The era brought league titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups, with Mazzola, Facchetti, Suárez, Picchi and others at its core.
Inter 3–1 Real Madrid
In Vienna, Inter won their first European Cup. Sandro Mazzola scored the opening and final goals against the great Real Madrid side of Di Stéfano and Puskás.
Back-to-back European champions
Jair's goal against Benfica at San Siro delivered a second consecutive European Cup.
The record-breaking Scudetto
Giovanni Trapattoni's side, built around figures such as Matthäus, Brehme, Bergomi and Zenga, produced one of the club's landmark league campaigns.
Three UEFA Cups
Inter won the UEFA Cup in 1991, 1994 and 1998. The 1998 triumph, with Ronaldo central to the team, became the final chapter of an extraordinary decade in the competition.
The Treble
José Mourinho's Inter won the Coppa Italia, Serie A and Champions League. Diego Milito scored both goals against Bayern Munich in Madrid on 22 May to complete the first Treble by an Italian club.
The second star
Inter's 20th league title earned the second star above the crest. It was clinched in a Milan derby, giving the achievement an additional place in club folklore.
